About Wise Cat
Wise Cat grew from a simple observation. As organisations grow, the challenges leaders face become increasingly complex, but the underlying causes are often more connected than they first appear. That observation has shaped my career and ultimately became Wise Cat.
Wise Cat exists to help leaders make sense of complexity, understand what is happening beneath the surface and move forward with greater clarity and confidence.
The Story Behind Wise Cat
Wise Cat was founded by Tamsin O'Luanaigh following more than twenty-five years working with organisations at different stages of growth and evolution.
Eight years at IBM provided experience of large-scale organisations, governance, operational complexity and the systems that help organisations perform consistently over time.
Eighteen years at nDreams, including co-founding the company, provided a very different perspective. It was an opportunity to experience first-hand what it means to build an organisation, support founders, develop leaders and navigate the realities of sustained growth.
Together, those experiences shaped a perspective that sits between structure and entrepreneurship, systems and people, strategy and culture.
Over time, one observation became increasingly difficult to ignore. Many organisational challenges that appeared separate on the surface were often connected underneath. Leadership, communication, culture, organisational design and strategy rarely operate independently of one another.
Understanding those connections became the foundation on which Wise Cat was built.
Why Wise Cat Exists
The intention was not to become another consultancy. It was created to provide something leaders often struggle to find.
Perspective.
That perspective has been shaped by working across corporate organisations, founder-led businesses and leadership teams navigating growth. Seeing those different worlds has taught me that the same structural challenges often appear in different forms.
As organisations grow, leaders often find themselves carrying greater responsibility while having less time and space to think. Decisions become more complex, expectations increase and competing priorities become harder to balance.
In these moments, the greatest value is rarely someone providing all the answers. More often, it is someone helping leaders understand what is really happening, identify what matters most and make thoughtful decisions with confidence.
That is the role Wise Cat exists to play.
A perspective built from different worlds
My perspective has been shaped by seeing organisations from several different vantage points: inside a global corporate environment, as a co-founder helping to grow a creative business from start-up to acquisition, and as an adviser supporting leaders through growth, change and organisational complexity.
Those experiences taught me that leadership, communication, culture, structure and strategy rarely operate independently of one another. Understanding those connections is the foundation of the Wise Cat Perspective.

Beyond Work
Although our work is grounded in organisational thinking, it is equally shaped by curiosity.
Some of my best thinking happens away from the meeting room: walking by the sea, reading, writing, spending time with my family or simply sitting quietly with a cup of tea.
Those moments create the space to observe patterns, reflect on conversations and connect ideas that might otherwise go unnoticed.
Curiosity has always been one of the qualities I value most. It creates the space to observe, to question and to understand before deciding what to do next. That same curiosity continues to shape all of our conversations.
Why Wise Cat
People occasionally ask where the name Wise Cat comes from.
The honest answer is quite simple.
I've always loved cats, and over the years many of the qualities people associate with them have felt surprisingly relevant to leadership and organisational life: curiosity, observation, independence, patience and perspective.
The cat logo is a playful reflection of that idea. If you look closely, you'll notice it shares a few characteristics with me too: glasses, a cup of tea and a smile.
The cat is called Sprite, a name chosen by my LinkedIn community shortly after the business launched. What began as a light-hearted idea has become a much-loved part of the Wise Cat brand.
Recognition
Our approach has always been built on practical work rather than awards. Even so, it's encouraging when that work is recognised by peers and the wider industry.

Through advisory work, speaking, workshops and Wise Cat Papers, my aim remains the same: helping leaders navigate growth, complexity and change with clarity, judgement and perspective.
Because while all organisations are different, the realities of leadership are often more familiar than they first appear.
The thinking will continue to evolve, but the purpose remains the same: helping leaders understand what is happening, decide what matters and move forward with confidence.
